Diego’s Major: Global Health

Visiting the Bunkers del Carmel one last time on my last day in Barcelona.

What did you learn about yourself or the world because of your experience?

Studying abroad allowed me to come out of my shell and have new experiences that I would not have experienced if I stayed in Wisconsin. Living in a country away from my friends and family allowed me to become a more independent person and it really enhanced my decision making skills. It also allowed me to become a more adaptable person by enhancing my problem solving skills and embracing change more readily.

How will your experience benefit you in the future? How might it affect your future career or studies?

Being a global health major, studying abroad offers a unique opportunity to gain a global perspective, develop cultural competence, build networks, and acquire practical skills. These advantages can significantly enhance my future career prospects and contribute to my effectiveness as a public health professional.

What is a custom, food or tradition from your host country that you are taking forward?

The Spanish tortilla. I absolutely fell in love with them during my time in Barcelona. I lived right above a restaurant that had them so I would go all the time. I cannot wait to attempt to make one.
