Final Reflections
As my study abroad program comes to an end, I reflect back on my time with great gratitude and appreciation. These past three months have been nothing short of amazing and has without a doubt been a transformative experience that I will hold close to me. This experience has allowed me to not only grow as a student through new experiences and knowledge, but also as a person. I’ve grown to hold a deeper admiration for the day-to-day life, to really take in the little things and appreciate them for what they are. To hold those around you close to you and really value the relationships in life.
If I could only take one thing back from this experience, it would be that. Interacting with locals daily, I witnessed the typical day in the Spanish culture. They place high value in their work-life balance, social life, and family relationships. There was never day, where I wouldn’t walk around the city, and just find people sitting down, talking, enjoying each other’s company. I believe that this experience has given me a new perspective on how to live my day-to-day. Worry less about things you can’t control, appreciate what’s currently around you, and just enjoy the presence of those you love.
I’ll forever be grateful for the relationships I made throughout my time abroad. Whether it be with fellow UW-Madison students who I had not previously talked to, students from other universities also studying abroad, or locals I was able to meet at my classes or over a game of football, I’ve made some of the most impactful relationships in these last months. The memories that will forever stick with me, will be those of gathering with friends, enjoying some delicious tapas, and losing track of time together. This experience has given me a deeper appreciation for life and the small pleasures of everyday.
